Everything here is baked by one person
Bakemerize is Shraddha Shenoy, working on pre-order from her own FSSAI-registered kitchen in Yelahanka, Bangalore. She is self-taught: every recipe on this menu was worked out at home, one batch at a time, and the shop grew out of what people kept asking her to bake again.
A registered home kitchen
Bakemerize bakes from home, and that is registered with FSSAI rather than glossed over. A home kitchen is what keeps the batches small enough to be worth ordering: three layers of sponge get the attention of one pair of hands instead of a production line.
Until now the whole shop lived in an Instagram inbox. This site is the same kitchen with the menu, the sizes and the prices written down, so you can see what a cake costs before you ask.
Pre-order only, and always has been
Nothing is baked in advance. There is no display case, no shelf of yesterday’s cakes and nothing to walk in and buy. Your cake is started after you order it, which is the reason a date has to be booked a few days ahead — and the reason it arrives fresh rather than merely unsold.
Nothing is charged on this site either. You pay when the cake reaches you in Bangalore, or when you collect it in Yelahanka.
What custom means in practice
The menu is where an order starts, not where it ends. Four things are decided for every cake, and the last of them is as open as you want it to be.
- The size
- Every cake is listed in the sizes it is actually baked in, with how many people each one feeds. Two sizes of one flavour are different bakes rather than the same cake cut differently, so the size is settled before anything goes in the oven.
- Egg or eggless
- Whether a cake can be baked eggless is decided per cake, and each cake’s own page says which. A cake that can only be baked one way never offers the choice, so you cannot order a version the kitchen cannot make.
- The writing on top
- Many cakes can carry a short message piped by hand, and each cake’s own page says whether it can. Send the exact wording with the order — spelling of names included — because it is written once, on the cake, on the morning it goes out.
- A design of your own
- Wedding cakes are worked out with you rather than picked off a list: the number of tiers, the flavour of each, and the finish are agreed before a date is booked. For anything else you have in mind, send a photo on WhatsApp and you will get an honest answer about whether it can be baked and what it would cost.
How much notice to give
Each cake carries its own notice period, shown on its page and enforced at checkout — the date picker will not let you choose a day the kitchen cannot make. A cart takes the longest notice period in it, so a wedding cake ordered with cupcakes waits for the wedding cake.
Orders are taken up to 90 days ahead. If your date is sooner than the cake allows, message us before you give up on it — sometimes there is room.
